Patna, August 26: A tragic incident unfolded in Begusarai when a 41-year-old man was bitten by a snake, believed to be a Russell's viper. The snake remained concealed in the man's clothing for nearly 16 hours, ultimately leading to his death. The snake was only discovered when the man’s body was placed on the funeral pyre and ignited by his 10-year-old son. This horrifying discovery has since become a subject of widespread discussion.
Remarkably, the snake remained hidden in Dharmveer Yadav's body despite efforts to seek medical treatment and consult local exorcists for venom removal. Family members and officials reported that Dharmveer Yadav, from Kumbhi village in the Cheria-Bariyarpur police jurisdiction, was bitten by the snake while gathering fodder for his cow on Thursday. On Friday, while Dharmveer Yadav's body was being cremated at Simaria Ghat, the hidden snake emerged when his young son, Shiv Shankar Kumar, lit the funeral pyre. The villagers swiftly killed the snake. Ashok Mahto, the mukhiya of Kumbhi panchayat, commented on Sunday, "It is unusual that the snake stayed concealed within the clothes for so long, unnoticed even by hospital staff. It only attempted to escape when the pyre was set ablaze."
Ramesh Yadav, a fellow villager, remarked, "The police investigation also cites 'snake bite' as the suspected cause of death. We're all astonished that the snake, which caused his death, remained hidden within his clothes for so long without being discovered."
