Beer Shortage in Bengaluru as Govt Insists on Sale of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL)
The vendors say that the demand for Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), is not as high as beer and hence them having to purchase the IMFL is not good for their business.
We all know that the monsoons this year has not been up to the mark and that water shortage at several places is expected all over India. Shortage of water is the harshest reality facing human beings but Bengaluru is facing a shortage of different kind which may be debilitating for the youth in another way. The cause of beer shortage is equally intriguing. The local sellers who have been complaining about their beer stock running dry, said that the quota system by the government is responsible for the "beer-shortage".
The beer quota system by the Karnataka government says that for every 100 boxes of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), the vendors are allowed to have 50 boxes of beer. But this presents the vendors with a strange challenge.
The vendors say that the demand for Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), is not as high as beer and hence them having to purchase the IMFL is not good for their business. The vendors association say that the state government wants higher revenue on alcohol, which they are able to collect of the IMFL. Globally as well, beer is about to suffer a shortage due to the climate changes.
