Jaipur, June 24: A day after 15 people lost their lives in a tragic pandaal collapse incident on Sunday, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot announced compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of the kin of those who lost their lives. Also, the Chief Minister has announced Rs 2 lakh compensation to the injured. In a tragic incident, at least 15 people were killed and over 50 people were injured after a pandaal (stage) collapsed in Rajasthan's Barmer on Sunday. On Monday, Union Minister and Barmer MP, Kailash Chaudhary visited the hospital where those injured in the pandaal collapse are currently receiving treatment. "The incident is painful. I offer my condolences to the departed souls&their family members.I am in contact with the administration. I have spoken to Home Minister Amit Shah&CM. The compensation announced by CM has reached the affected", Chaudhary said.

According to reports, those injured have been admitted in different government and private hospitals in Barmer and neighbouring Jodhpur district. As soon as the incident was reported, police swung into action. Reports inform that most of those killed were from different villages of the Barmer district.

The incident took place at a school ground where 'Ram Katha' was organised near Rani Bhatiyani temple in Jasol village of the district. Reports inform that the pandal was uprooted by strong winds, trapping the people sitting under it. Details by police inform that hundreds of devotees were attending the programme. According to eyewitnesses, the tent got uprooted due to the winds and hovered for a few seconds in the air before collapsing.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the incident terming it as an unfortunate. "Collapse of a 'Pandaal' in Rajasthan’s Barmer is unfortunate. My thoughts are with the bereaved families and I wish the injured a quick recovery," the Prime Minister's Office quoted him as saying in a tweet.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah Sunday expressed pain over the loss of lives during a religious programme in Barmer district of Rajasthan when a tent collapsed on the devotees."Pained to know about the loss of lives due to collapse of a Pandaal in Barmer, Rajasthan. I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved families. May the injured recover quickly," he tweeted.
