Baramulla Mosque Gutted in Fire, Extensive Damage Reported; Watch Video

The fire damaged the mosque completely. No casualties have been reported so far. The Police has initiated an investigation into the matter. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Jammu, Sep 21: A mosque in Khawaja Bagh area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district was engulfed in fire on Friday morning. According to reports, the blaze broke out in the second storey of Masjid Rehmat in Khawaja Bagh. The fire damaged the mosque completely. No casualties have been reported so far. The Police has initiated an investigation into the matter to ascertain the cause of the blaze.

According to reports, firefighters and locals doused the flames and prevented the fire from spreading to nearby localities.

Earlier this week, at least seven people were injured in a blaze that broke out in a shopping complex in Uri on Sunday. All the injured ones were rushed to a hospital. Reports inform that two shops and a residential quarter were damaged in the fire.

In the last week, Baramulla district witnessed major encounters between security forces and militants. Reports inform that two militants were killed in an encounter in Sopore area on September 13. Following intelligence input about the presence of militants in the area, the security forces had launched a cordon and search operation in Chinkipora near Arampora area of Sopore in north Kashmir.
