Srinagar, January 24: Baramulla has become the first district of Jammu and Kashmir to have no surviving terrorist. A day after an encounter in which three terrorists were gunned down by security forces, Jammu and Kashmir DGP Dilbagh Singh has said that there is no surviving terrorist in the district of Baramulla as on date.
Three Lashkar-e-Taiba militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. The three were identified as Suhaib Farooq Akhoon, Mohsin Mushtaq Bhat and Nasir Ahmad Darzi, police said. The police added that they were involved in several militancy-related cases in north Kashmir.
The security forces had launched a cordon and search operation in Binner area of the district on Wednesday on receiving information about the presence of militants in the area, a police official said. He said that the search operation turned into a gunfight after the ultras opened fire at the security personnel.
Other weapons and other incriminating material were also recovered from the spot.
Earlier this week, encounters also took place between security forces and terrorists in Shopian and Budgam. The brother of a serving IPS officer was among the six terrorists who were killed in these two separate encounters
