Barabanki, September 3: A cop in Uttar Pradesh's Barabanki police station allegedly forced a 16-year-old rape survivor to withdraw her complaint after the accused reportedly was made to pay INR 50,000 to her. The victim's uncle first lodged the complaint against the accused, who insisted on the latter's arrest.

The 25-year-old accused, Ankit Verma, was detained by the police along with his brother after the complaint was registered. However, as per a Times of India report, after locking them as suspects at the police station for around 10 hours, the police allegedly forced this truce between the parties. Superintendent of Police Dinesh Singh informed that he removed Masauli police station in-charge Arun Pratap Singh and suspended Trilokpur outpost sub-inspector Manoj Kumar over the allegations of this forced withdrawal request of the case. Furthermore, a departmental investigation was initiated against the two officials over this allegation. The accused, Ankit Verma, was charged with kidnapping the girl from outside her village on August 22 and then raping her. He reportedly took her later to a hotel in Ghaziabad, where he raped and assaulted her again. According to the complaint, the repeated assaults worsened the girl's condition, after which Ankit allegedly left her outside her house on August 25. Ankit also threatened her, as per the complaint registered.
