Lucknow, August 8: Bansuri Swaraj, daughter of former EAM Sushma Swaraj immersed her mother's ashes in Ganga river in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, a day after Swaraj was cremated with full state honours in New Delhi. In a video released by ANI, Bansuri is seen with father Kaushal Swaraj immersing the ashes in Hapur. On Wednesday, the last rites of former External Affairs minister were held at the Dayanand crematiorum on Lodhi Road. The 67-year-old veteran BJP leader passed away on July 6 following a cardiac arrest. Her body was kept at the Bharatiya Janata Party headquarters in the heart of the capital for public to pay homage. Swaraj was the foreign minister in the first term of the Modi government in 2014. She opted out of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections citing ill health.

On Tuesday night, people of the nation were shock to hear the news of Swaraj's untimely demise. The 67-year-old BJP veteran died of cardiac arrest at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi. Admirers of the former External Affairs Minister mourned her death and were in tears as her mortal remains made their way from her residence to the BJP headquarters in the heart of the national capital.

Security was beefed up at the Dayanand crematorium on Lodhi Road on Wednesday as top leaders reached for her last rites. Prominent leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, BJP stalwart L.K. Advani, Union Ministers Rajnath Singh and Amit Shah attended the funeral.
