New Delhi, December 28: No sooner had the bank unions concluded their 5-day long strike against the merger of Bank of Baroda with Vijaya Bank and Dena Bank, than the All India Bank Employees' Association (AIBEA) has proposed yet another bank protest. This would be the third bank strike in a span of 20 days.

In a notification, United Bank said that, "a proposed strike called by All India Bank Employees' Association (AlBEA) & Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI) on 8th January, 2019 and 9th January, 2019 on various issues connected to the banking industry."

"The Bank shall take all necessary measures in terms of extant guidelines for smooth functioning of the Bank's Branches/Offices on the day(s) of Strike, should the strike(s) materialize," the notification read further.

Services like deposits, savings, opening accounts, cash withdrawals, draft in United Bank will be affected. Customers are advised to carry the transactions before January 8 or after January 9.

Operations at branches of public sector banks across the country were impacted on Wednesday, December 21, due to a strike by unions against the proposed merger of Vijaya Bank and Dena Bank with Bank of Baroda (BoB). The strike was called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) - an umbrella organisation of all 9 unions including the All India Bank Officers Confederation (AIBOC), the All India Bank Employees' Association (AIBEA), National Confederation of Bank Employees (NCBE) and the National Organisation of Bank Workers (NOBW).
