Mumbai, November 20: In a major crackdown on rule breakers, the Maharashtra Excise department on Monday slapped a fine of nearly 19 lakh on a liquor shop, Deepak wines from Bandra's Pali Hill area. The action was taken from the excise department after they received a numerous of complaining that alcohol was home delivered at night without a proper license, reported Times of India. A press note released by excise department stated that the shop owner failed to provide valid documents for the sale of liquor worth Rs 11 lakh during 2017-2018 and the shop was a wholesale supplier of liquor without a proper permit. During the raids, the officials found that liquor of Rs 6.3 lakh had been home delivered illegally, so as per provisions of law, a three-time fine of Rs 18.9 was slapped to the shop owner Deepak C Karamchandani. The officials have seized two bikes which were used for home delivery of alcohol. During the interrogation, it was revealed that the shop continued to sell liquor till 4 am in the morning and often used to deliver it to customers home with some delivery charges. As per the law, the home delivery of alcohol is illegal and carries a fine of Rs 5, 000 or jail up to six months.
