Ranchi, August 27: In the latest development, the Jharkhand High Court has lifted the ban imposed on Popular Front of India (PFI). The court observed that the state government did not follow the procedures to ban an organisation. The case filed regarding it has also been quashed. Justice Rongon Mukhopadhyay passed the order in a case in which general secretary of Jharkhand PFI Abdul Wadod had challenged the government’s decision.

Advocate A Allam filed the case on behalf of Wadod. Allam told ANI, "No incriminating material was found that calls for a ban. No anti-social or anti-national activities were found. The PFI has registration in Society Registration Act. The organisation works for social issues." In February this year, the Jharkhand Government banned the PFI for spreading anarchy in the state.

The action was taken after the Law department gave its consent on the proposal of the Home Department. The PFI was banned under Section 16 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act, 1908. It also prevents anyone from becoming a member of the organisation or giving any donation. The government also alleged that the organisation has links with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence wing. Various books and documents of the PFI were also seized by the government.
