Bahraich, December 17: The police arrested a woman who allegedly beat her infant daughter to death for some occult practice. The deceased was 18-month-old. The crime took place in Tajpur village under Nanpara police area of Bahraich on Sunday. The mother had claimed that her daughter died of cold.

According to a report, some villagers approached the Nanpara police station with a complaint that 32-year-old Geeta Devi had beaten her daughter Sonam to death. Initial investigation suggested Geeta killed her daughter for some occult practice. The accused was arrested, and the body of Sonam was sent for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact reason for her death, Station house officer, Nanpara police station, RP Yadav told Hindustan Times. Geeta’s husband Zimindar works at a brick kiln in Gonda district.

The police found marks of injuries on Sonam's body, which strengthened the case against Geeta.
