New Delhi, August 5: A gold medallist in badminton was trapped by a gang of traffickers at the New Delhi railway station. The victim, along with other minors, was rescued by officials on GB Road on July 12. The girl left her home in Uttar Pradesh and travelled to Delhi last year when the incident happened. The victims were taken to shelter homes, and the brothel was sealed

TOI reported that the 17-year-old girl was travelling to Delhi to participate in a championship when a group of traffickers trapped her, and she found herself trapped in the grim alleys of GB Road’s red-light district. A few days ago, authorities raided Kotha Number 59 after receiving a tip-off, rescuing the girl and another minor. Sex Trafficking Racket Busted in Delhi: Lured With Job Offer, Woman Held as Captive in Vasant Kunj Flat and ‘Offered’ to Clients; Rescued by Police.

The police found the victims confined on the top floor, where they were allegedly forced to serve at least eight clients daily. Sources revealed that the girls were also administered hormonal injections to expedite their physical development. After the rescue, the victims were transported to a shelter home with the help of an NGO, and medical exams at Lok Nayak Hospital confirmed their ages, and their statements were recordedDelhi: Prostitution Racket Busted in Rohini; 4, Including 3 Women, Arrested.

Further, it was noted that Kiran Devi (53), the brothel owner, had brought the minors to the brothel last year with the assistance of Rishi and Sanjay. Additionally, Lalaram (48), also known as Sunil, was identified for allegedly falsifying documents to pass the minors off as adults. 

The rescue operation was led by the ‘all-women police post’ team, including SI Kiran Sethi, ASI Paramjeet, and constable Mamta, with additional support from Kamla Market police station. They apprehended Kiran and Lalaram and confiscated a mobile phone, a Samsung notebook, six Aadhaar card photocopies, a PAN card, and 14 passport-sized photos. Two FIRs were filed under the Trafficking Act and the Pocso Act. The police also sealed another kotha where a minor was rescued earlier. DCP Harshavardhan M stated that these actions aim to deter such illegal activities.
