New Delhi, October 27: Ahead of the critical Supreme Court verdict in the 134-year-old Ayodhya land dispute, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he is hopeful that better sense and calmness will prevail in all parts of the nation. In his monthly radio address of Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi recalled the day when Allahabad High Court had pronounced its judgement, which was moreover accepted by all sides despite initial dissent. Even as Modi stressed that all interest groups had ultimately respected the judiciary, ne noted that there were some rabble-rousing elements who attempted to stoke unrest. Although they attempted to spread tension among all communities for a few days, their efforts had failed to yield results, the Prime Minister recalled.

"In September 2010, when Allahabad High Court gave its verdict on Ram Janmabhoomi, what was the situation? Different types of people came to the ground, different interest groups tried to exploit the situation to their own advantage, what all things were said then," Modi said in his Mann Ki Baat address.
"With the intention to hog limelight,some outspoken people said irresponsible things. But it continued for only 5-10 days. But as soon as the decision came, the nation experienced a welcome change. One one hand everything happened for 2 weeks to make the situation tense," he added.
"But when decision came on Ram Janmabhoomi, government, political parties, civil societies, representatives of all communities, saints gave balanced statements and tried to reduce tension. When I recall that day, I feel happy that judiciary was respected and tension was not allowed," the Prime Minister further said.
Hearings in the Ayodhya case was concluded on October 16, with the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi stating during the last stage of trial that "enough is enough". The verdict in the case is expected to be announced before November 17 -- the day when CJI Gogoi will demit Office.
