Ayodhya Land Dispute Case: Supreme Court Gives Time to 3-Member Mediation Panel Till August 15
The Supreme Court on Friday granted time to three-member mediation panel till August 15 to find an amicable solution to the Ayodhya land dispute case. A five-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of India was scheduled to take note of the report by the three-member panel today.
New Delhi, May 10: The Supreme Court on Friday granted time to three-member mediation panel till August 15 to find an amicable solution to the Ayodhya land dispute case. A five-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of India was scheduled to take note of the report by the three-member panel today. The CJI refused to reveal details of today’s hearing. He said, “We're not going to tell you what progress has been made, that’s confidential." The other judges of the panel are Justices SA Bobde, SA Nazeer, Ashok Bhushan and DY Chandrachud. The three-member mediation panel was constituted in March this year. The panel comprised Justice (Retd) FM Kalifulla, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Sriram Panchu. Justice Kalifulla is heading the panel. During the hearing on March 8, the top court had said that that mediators can co-opt more on the panel if necessary. The court had also directed the Uttar Pradesh government to provide mediators all the facilities in Ayodhya.
Meanwhile, according to reports, Hindu bodies except Nirmohi Akhara opposed the suggestion of the apex court to refer the issue for mediation, while Muslim bodies supported it. Last month, the top court also dismissed a plea for performing puja at disputed land in Ayodhya on the occasion of Ramanavami. The top court also fined the petitioner Rs 5 lakh for filing the plea.
Meanwhile, 14 appeals have been filed in the Supreme Court against the 2010 Allahabad High Court judgment. As per the judgment which was delivered in four civil suits, the 2.77-acre land in Ayodhya be partitioned equally among the three parties — the Sunni Waqf Board, the Nirmohi Akhara and Ram Lalla.
