Ayodhya Case: Supreme Court to Start Hearing Ram Janambhoomi-Babri Masjid Land Dispute From August 6
The Supreme Court will hold a day-to-day hearing in the Ayodhya Ram Janabhoomi case from August 6 as the mediation panel failed to any final settlement in the matter. The member of the bench also includes Justices SA Bobde, DY Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan and S Abdul Nazeer.
New Delhi, August 2: The Supreme Court will hold a day-to-day hearing in the Ayodhya Ram Janabhoomi case from August 6 as the mediation panel failed to achieve any final settlement in the matter. Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, who was heading a constitutional bench said, “We have received the mediation panel report. The mediation panel has not been able to achieve any final settlement. Oher members of the bench are Justices SA Bobde, DY Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan and S Abdul Nazeer. A senior lawyer appearing for Muslim parties, Rajeev Dhavan questioned the Supreme Court's decision. Dhavan submitted to the apex court that he would take 20 days to argue in the case. To which the CJI replied, “We see about it.”
The top court on July 18 had asked the mediation committee on Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute to submit a report on the progress made till July 31. The mediation panel comprises former top court judge FMI Kalifulla, Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and senior Advocate Sriram Panchu. The panel was formed by the top court to explore options of an out-of-court settlement. Fourteen appeals are still pending in the Supreme Court against the 2010 Allahabad High Court verdict which directed equal distribution of the 2.77 acre land in Ayodhya among the Nirmohi Akhara, Sunni Waqf Board and Ram Lalla.
