New Delhi, January 25: Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi on Friday reconstituted a bench to hear Ayodhya Case. The bench will now also include Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice Abdul Nazeer. The court will hear the case on January 29. The Ayodhya case was earlier scheduled to be heard on January 10. But the hearing was fixed for January 29 after Justice UU Lalit recused himself from the case. The five-judge Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court, headed by CJI Gogoi, earlier comprised of Justice SA Bobde, Justice NV Ramana, Justice UU Lalit and Justice DY Chandrachud.

The top court will hear a batch of pleas challenging the Allahabad High Court's 2010 verdict by which the disputed land in Ayodhya was divided into three parts. Meanwhile, the apex court in its earlier hearing on September 27 last year had declined to refer to a five-judge constitution bench the issue of reconsideration of the observations in its 1994 judgment that a mosque was not integral to Islam which had arisen during the hearing of the Ayodhya land dispute. Ayodhya Case: Supreme Court to Hear PIL on January 4 Questioning Delay in Adjudication of Ram Mandir-Babri Masjid Dispute.

For the last eight years, the Ayodhya case is pending before the Supreme Court. The Allahabad High Court in 2010 had ruled a verdict that divided the disputed Ayodhya land equally among three parties, the Sunni Waqf Board, the Nirmohi Akhara and Ram Lalla.
