New Delhi, January 4: The Supreme Court on Friday took up a batch of petitions for hearing in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title dispute case and deferred the matter for hearing on January 10. According to a tweet by ANI, the hearing which continued for 60 seconds, did not see any arguments from either side. "Further orders will be passed by an appropriate bench on January 10 for fixing the date of hearing the matter," a bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice S K Kaul said. As soon as the matter came up, the CJI said it is the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid case and went ahead with passing the order.
The top Court also dismissed a PIL seeking to hear the Ayodhya matter on urgent and day to day basis. The PIL was filed by an advocate Harinath Ram in November 2018. Also, senior advocates Harish Salve and Rajeev Dhavan, appearing for different parties, did not even get the opportunity to make any submission. On November 12, the top Court had rejected a plea seeking an early hearing in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit. However, on December 24, an SC bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi had decided on "fixing the date of hearing before the appropriate bench." It was on the same day that Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the central government wants the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit to be heard on day to day basis in the court. The Ram Janambhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case has been pending for the last several decades in the Supreme Court. Earlier this week, in an interview to ANI, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that any decision on bringing an ordinance on Ram temple construction can be considered only after the end of the judicial process.
