The search mission for the second cub is on and apparently, 4 elephants from Madhya Pradesh have also been brought in for the same. The concern about Avni's 10-month-old cubs was raised immediately after she was shot dead. More than 100 member teams were formed to comb the forest areas where Avni was residing. But there was no luck until today. The mission continues to find the male cub. It was a worrisome situation since Avni herself was found to be starving in the post-mortem reports. The reports also revealed that the tigress was not shot in self-defence as was stated earlier.
The killing of the tigress raised a lot of questions regarding the protocol. An investigation team of independent wildlife experts was formed to look into the killing of the tigress. The committee was to investigate into all norms and directives involved in shooting at Avni. It became a political issue as it drew huge flak from various departments. It was said that Ali carried out the operation illegally. Avni was alleged of killing 13 people in the area. Concerns were raised if the cubs would survive without any food, and the death of the mother, but the finding of one of them has given a piece of positive news.
