Avalanche Strikes Army Position in Jammu & Kashmir's Kupwara; 1 Soldier Killed, 3 Missing
One Indian Army jawan got killed, and three others went missing after an avalanche hit an Army post in the Tangdhar region of Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. Following the incident, the Army had launched the search and rescue mission to find the missing jawans and successfully rescued one personnel.
Srinagar, December 3: In a sad incident on Tuesday, one Indian Army jawan got killed, and three others went missing after an avalanche hit an Army post in the Tangdhar region of Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. Following the incident, the Army had launched the search and rescue mission to find the missing jawans and successfully rescued one personnel.
According to the latest information, the Avalanche Rescue Team is trying to locate the missing Army jawans trapped under the snow in Kupwara, however, the harsh weather conditions are making the rescue operations difficult. Earlier in a similar incident in Siachen glacier at around 18,000 feet on November 18, four Indian Army soldiers were killed, while several were injured. The major avalanche struck the northern region of Siachen Glacier, where Indian Army personnel were posted on border duty.
Until recently, the worst avalanche in recent years was reported on February 3, 2016. The tragic fury of nature led to the death of nine out of ten Indian soldiers trapped. One among them, identified as 32-year-old Lance Naik Hanumanthappa Koppad, survived despite being buried under snow for six days.
