An incident at Rajasthan's Barmer district brings to light the lack of facilities in the state in healthcare sector. The incident drew protests from local residents. The health officials, however, justified the action and said that they had to perform the autopsy on humanitarian grounds as there is no mortuary nearby. Rajasthan: Four of Family Killed in Accident in Dausa District.
Reportedly, Maya Kanwar (30) from Barmer's Gadara Road got electricuted while hanging clothes on an iron wire on the rooftop of her house. She screamed loudly after she came in contact with the electric line, hearing which, her mother-in-law and father-in-law tried to save her but ended up getting electrocuted too.
All the three victims were rushed to a health centre where the two women were declared dead. The woman's father in law has been taken to Barmer hospital for treatment, said a report in The Hindustan Times.
The doctors at the Community Health Centre then conducted the post-mortem outside the centre. This incident happened on Wednesday. Dr Kamlesh Choudhary, Barmer's chief medical and health officer said that the 100-kilometre stretch between Barmer and Gadara Road has no mortuary. He also added that proper protocol was followed during the postmortem procedure.
