Mumbai, December 19: The Mumbai Police on Thursday issued a traffic advisory for Citizenship Amendment Act protest around August Kranti Maidan. The traffic restrictions are in force from 12:00 pm to 10 pm on December 19. Around 2,000 security personnel, including those from Mumbai Police and other forces, will be deployed around the August Kranti Maidan for what is expected to be the largest demonstration against Citizenship Law and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) so far in Mumbai. Beside residents, students and activist, the protest will also see the participation of leaders of Indian National Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), allies in Shiv Sena-led Maharashtra government. To ensure smooth flow of traffic during the protest, Mumbai Police has shared alternate routes and diversions.

  • There will be "No Entry" from Nana Chowk Junction to Kemps Corner Signal (August Kranti Marg) Mumbai.

Alternate Routes and Diversions:

  • Vehicles coming from Kenedy Bridge, Grant Road Bridge towards August Kranti Marg, Kemps Corner should be diverted through Nana Chowk Junction- Pandita Ramabai Marg- Sisil junction towards North and South Mumbai.
  • Vehicles from Sisil Junction via Pandita Ramabai Marg- Nana Chowk Junction towards Kemps Corner should be diverted to Tardeo Road towards North and South Mumbai.
  • The vehicle's from Tardeo Road to Kemps Corner to August Kranti Marg will be diverted to Forjet Street towards Bhatia Hospital signal

No Parking Area

  • Sletter Road up to Grant Road Railway station
  • Forjet street and the surrounding area of August Kranti Ground

The protest is against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) which grants Indian nationality to six minority communities- Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, Jains, Parsis and Buddhists- from three Islamic countries like Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh who faced religious persecution there and entered India on or before December 31, 2019.
