The Uttar Pradesh police has booked don-turned-politician Atique Ahmed for allegedly abducting and thrashing a real-estate businessman, Mohit Jaiswal, inside Deoria jail. According to the complaint filed by Jaiswal, former MP Atique Ahmed, his son Umar and his five aides abducted him from Lucknow on December 26 and assaulted him inside Deoria jail.

"I was thrashed inside the jail by the accomplices of Atiq Ahmad. Forcefully my four companies were transferred in the name of two associates of Ahmad. I was also made to sign on 15-10 plain papers and they also made me leave my Fortuner vehicle in the jail," reads the FIR filed by Jaiswal. He also alleged that accomplices of Ahmad threatened him and his men of dire consequences.

While a case was registered against Atique Ahmed, Deoria Jail Superintendent, DK Pandey called the reports of the assault on Jaiswal false. "This information is completely wrong. The meeting was held according to the rules. Jaiswal didn't complain about it to us," Pandey told news agency ANI. Two accused have been arrested in the case.
