The incident today comes a month after Agnivesh was allegedly assaulted by a mob of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) activists in Jharkhand’s Pakur. He claimed the attack was “state-sponsored”. "As soon as I came out of the venue, BJYM (Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha) and ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad) activists attacked me without any provocation. They alleged that I was speaking against Hindus," Agnivesh told PTI.
Meanwhile, Jharkhand Urban Development Minister CP Singh had said that self-proclaimed spiritual leader had sponsored the attack on himself. He said, "I think he sponsored an attack on himself. He is a huge hypocrite. He talks against Hindus, makes anti-national comments, supports Kashmiri separatists and naxals."
Following the incident, Agnivesh was taken to the Pakur Sadar Hospital, where doctors took his X-ray after he complained of pain in the veins. Police informed that an FIR has been registered against 100 persons and have been booked under various IPC section, including 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting with a deadly weapon), 149 (unlawful assembly) and 307 (attempt to murder), and the Schedule Caste/Schedule Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, the Pakur district police said.
