While Chhattisgarh went to polls in two phases on November 12 and 20, Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram had assembly elections on November 28. Polling was held on December 7 in Rajasthan and Telangana. In Madhya Pradesh, the BJP is seeking for a fourth consecutive term, while the Congress is trying hard to return to power after 15 years. In Rajasthan, the main contest is between the BJP, which is fighting anti-incumbency to retain power, and the Congress, which left no stone unturned to make a comeback in the state. Notably, Rajasthan has not voted the same party to power for more than one term in the last 20 years. In the 119-member Telangana assembly, the ruling TRS is facing a challenge from the Congress-led People's Front, which also includes Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Communist Party of India and Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS), and the BJP.

Mizoram saw a multi-cornered contest between the ruling Congress, main opposition MNF and the BJP, along with three regional parties ZPM, NPP and PRISM. A majority of exit polls predicted a landslide victory for Congress in Rajasthan and gave the grand old party an edge over the BJP in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. Surveys by media organisations and agencies predicted a TRS victory in Telangana.
