Bongaigaon, May 21: In a shocking incident in Assam, a youth was forced to have sex with a minor girl by five individuals while they recorded the act and subsequently blackmailed the couple with video. The incident occurred when the youth and the minor girl visited the Bhumeshwar Hills, a tourist place in Assam's Bongaigaon district. The crime, which occurred on May 15, came to public attention three days later on May 18, prompting swift police action.
According to a report by The New Indian Express, the accused, who are locals, intercepted the young couple at Bhumeshwar Hills, forced them to undress, and compelled them to engage in sexual activity while recording the incident on a mobile phone. The accused then held the girl hostage and demanded Rs 5,000 from the youth, threatening to disseminate the video if the money was not paid. As per the report, the youth, in a desperate attempt to protect their dignity, left the girl in the custody of the perpetrators to arrange the money. Upon his return with the demanded sum, the couple was released. As per the report, it was initially suspected that the girl might have been gang-raped by the five individuals while in their custody. The accused, identified as Jiren Sarkar, Seboram Sarkar, Biltu Rabha, Sunit Rabha, and Dalim Barman, were arrested by the Assam police and are charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and Information Technology (IT) Act. The charges include criminal conspiracy, wrongful confinement, assault with intent to disrobe, stalking, extortion, and violation of privacy.
As the investigation continues, the accused will be produced in court, with police seeking their remand for further investigation. With locals demanding stringent action against those involved, Superintendent Meena confirmed that the police had successfully spoken to the girl and would soon record her formal statement and conduct a medical examination.
