Guwahati, June 27: The Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) on Thursday announced a compensation of Rs 2.5 lakh for the family of an employee who was electrocuted while repairing an 11 KV electric line in Biswanath district. The compensation was announced shortly after Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed sorrow over the incident.

The fatal accident was reported on Wednesday, when a lineman identified as Robin Das was charred to death as current began flowing through the wire which he was repairing. The government has ordered a magisterial probe into the incident, stating that those found negligent in the case will be strictly acted upon.

According to reports, a preliminary internal inquiry has revealed that the power control room in Biswanath district was being operated by one Bhaskar Nath at the time of accident.

Nath, reports The Sentinelis neither an an official control operator nor an employee of the APDCL.

The Chief General Manager of APDCL has assured to fix accountability in the matter and take department action against all erring personnel. As an immediate measure, two linemen Damrudhar Bora and Babul Ali have been suspended.
