Assam Police Register 268 Cases Against 'Violent' Anti-CAA Protesters, Arrest 448 Persons for Breaking Law And Order

Amid the reports of UP Police registering a case against 1000 unidentified students of AMU for violence during protests against the CAA on December 15, reports are coming that 268 cases have been registered in Assam in connection with recent violence. Also, 48 persons have been arrested as of yet.

Guwahati, December 28: Amid the reports of Uttar Pradesh Police registering a case against 1000 unidentified students of Aligarh Muslim University for violence during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act on December 15, reports are coming that 268 cases have been registered in Assam in connection with recent violence. Also, Assam Police have arrested 448 persons in connection with the violence that erupted in the North-East state post CAB was passed in Upper House.

Briefing more about the development from the North-Eastern state, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) GP Singh said, as quoted by new agency ANI, "As of December 28th, 2019, 268 cases registered in Assam in connection with recent violence and 448 persons arrested have been arrested." Earlier in the day, senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi while addressing a gathering had alleged that BJP spreads hate wherever it goes. Adding more, Gandhi said that BJP doesn't want to listen to the voice of people. Apart from that Gandhi said, "Assam knows its culture and history, people know that they can together lead the state towards development and growth. We won’t let BJP and RSS tamper with it. The people from Nagpur will not run Assam. Assam will be run by Assamese people."

It is to be known that Uttar Pradesh Police has registered a case against 1000 unidentified students of Aligarh Muslim University for violence which broke out during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act on December 15. The state police had even filed an FIR (First Information Report) against 1,200 students for carrying out candlelight march. The case has been registered under sections 188 and 341 of the IPC (Indian Penal Code) for violating Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).
