The draft NRC in Assam released on Monday has excluded 40 lakh among the state's population from the official list of citizens. Those excluded will have the chance to learn the reason for their exclusion at the NRC office after August 10.
From August 28, they will be allowed to file applications challenging their exclusion. In their plea, they could attach the relevant documents which proves their citizenship.
The final draft will be released on December 31, 2018. Those excluded from the final list will then be tried by the Foreigners' Tribunal. If the FT decides to deport them, the order could be challenged in the High Court, followed by the Supreme Court.
