Guwahati, June 26: An additional NRC exclusion list was published by the Assam government on Wednesday. Over one lakh people were excluded from the draft of National Register of Citizens (NRC), which was published last year. The people whose names appear in the additional exclusion list are the ones who were included in the draft NRC but later found ineligible. A statement issued by the state coordinator of NRC reads: "The list has been published as per provisions of Clause 5 of the Schedule of the Citizenship (Registration of Citizens and Issue of National Identity Cards) Rules 2003. Meanwhile, the NRC in Assam is being updated under the monitoring of the Supreme Court. The final NRC list will be released on July 31." How to check your name in the exclusion list:
- Go to the official website of Assam Government - assam.gov.in.
- Scroll Down and click on the Additional Draft NRC Exclusion List.
- A new page will be opened. Type your ARN number in the box and enter given captcha.
- Click on the "Search" button.
- If your name appears, you are in the exclusion list and you need to apply for further processes.
The draft published on July 30, 2018, included the names of 2.9 crore people out of total applications of 3.29 crores. Around forty lakh people were left out in the draft. Of these, 37,59,630 names have been rejected and the remaining 2,48,077 are put on hold. The ones who were excluded from the list were given a chance to appeal in the "claims and objections" round. On Thursday, while addressing the joint session of the 17th Lok Sabha, President Ram Nath Kovind said that the Centre has decided to implement the NRC, which is being updated in Assam at present, on priority basis in areas affected by infiltration.
