Guwahati, July 22: The Assam State Disaster Management Authority on Wednesday informed that the death toll reached to 87 and 55,59,797 affected across 30 districts due to floods in the state. The ASDMA also stated that 2,409 villages in the state have been affected.
Releasing the morning summary report, the ASDMA stated that the government has set up a total of 397 relief camps and distribution centres in 18 districts where 44,553 people have taken shelter currently. Among the worst affected districts include Cachar, Dibrugarh, Kamrup (M) and Charaideo. Meanwhile, the Central Water Commission said that by tomorrow evening, Brahmaputra river is expected to rise by 30 cm compared to this morning. The CWC warned people to be cautious if going near the riverfront.
Earlier on Tuesday, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal reviewed the COVID-19 situation and flood scenario with the district administration of Goalpara. The Chief Minister directed officials to create awareness regarding Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) among farmers while expediting relief measures to those affected by the Assam floods.
