Assam Floods: Situation Becomes Grim in 17 Districts; 6 People Lose Lives, 4 Lakh Displaced

With the flood situation in Assam crossing a danger mark, three people have been reportedly died and around 1556 villages announced affected in 20 towns of the north-eastern state. Rivers in the state are flowing above the danger level in various places and around four lakh people across 17 districts are suffering due to this natural disaster.

Guwahati, July 12: With the flood situation in Assam crossing a danger mark, six people have been reportedly died and around 1,556 villages announced affected in 20 towns of the north-eastern state. Rivers in the state are flowing above the danger level in various places and around four lakh people across 17 districts are suffering due to this natural disaster.

According to a report, published in PTI, the flood waters have forced the railway authority to control train services due to 'settlement of tracks' in the Lumding-Badarpur hill section in the last 24 hours. Among the worst affected places in Assam include Dhemaji, Kokrajhar, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Darrang, Baksa, Barrpeta, Nalbari, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Lakhimpur, Morigaon, Hojai, Nagaon, Golaghat, Majuli, Jorhat, Sivsagar, Dibrugarh & Tinsukia. Continuous rainfall in the state for over last two days has worsened the situation and the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) stated that they are doing their best to make reach the relief materials to the 4.23 lakh affected people. Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal did an aerial recee of teh affected places on Friday and directed the officials to speed up the rescue mission.

Apart from this, NDRF and SDRF teams have been deployed to rescue flood-hit people. Temporary relief camps have been set up to shelter flood-affected people and other medical arrangements are being made.
