Assam Floods: NDRF Rescue Operations Intensifies as Districts of Tripura, Meghalaya Get Affected by Deluge, More Than 26 Lakh Affected
Approximately four lakh people- 42,86,421 have been affected by the floods in Assam, Manipur and surrounding states. A total of 183 relief camps are operational to accommodate those affected by the deluge. On Monday, the NDRF personnel rescued people from flood-affected areas in Morigaon and Golaghat in Assam.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rescued more than 2,500 people from flood-affected areas in districts of Baksa, Morigaon, Golaghat, Kamrup (Rural) Assam from July 11-15. In all, 15 teams of NDRF comprising about 380 personnel have been deployed to tackle the flood situation in Assam, reported news agency ANI. This largely follows the pattern in north-eastern states of India, especially Assam, Tripura and Meghalaya after the rise in Brahmaputra river following the heavy rains. As per the update, till July 15, a total number of 4,157 villages in 30 districts including Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Darrang, Udalguri, Baksa, Barpeta, Nalbari, Chirang, Bongaigaon and Kokrajhar affected. In other flood related news, vehicular movement on National Highway-9 near Sawala in Champawat, Uttarakhand was affected after the road is blocked by boulders and stones.

The Brahmaputra River at Nimati Ghat in Jorhat and Dhansiri, Jia Bharali, Puthimari and Beki rivers are currently flowing above the danger level. According to villagers, ferry services between Majuli and Jorhat have been cut off for over a week following the rise in water levels.
