Guwahati, July 24: The death toll in Assam floods rose to 75 as six more people lost their lives on Wednesday. The water has flooded 20 out of 33 districts in the state. According to reports more than 34 lakh people were also affected in the flash floods. Nearly 3,000 villages were also deluged due to heavy spells of rain. Assam Floods: NDRF Rescue Operations Intensifies as Districts of Tripura, Meghalaya Get Affected by Deluge, More Than 26 Lakh Affected.

Meanwhile, the state weather department predicted heavy rainfall at isolated places in the state to continue over the next three days. However, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the intensity of rainfall over Assam, Meghalaya and Sikkim could reduce after Thursday.

Though the floodwaters have receded in Biswanath and Karbi Anglong districts, the deluge hit Lakhimpur and Baksa again, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said. In the Kaziranga National Park in Golaghat district the death toll of animals rose to 204, including 15 rhinos, since July 13, it added. Assam Floods: Death Toll Rises to 20, Over 90% Kaziranga National Park Submerged With 17 Animals Dead; 32 Districts Affected.

The Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger level at Neamatighat in Jorhat and Dhubri districts. According to reports, an alert has also been issued for the lower part of the state as Bhutan is expected to release water from its dams due to an over-flooded river.

The National Disaster Response Force have been rushed to the region. Seeing the gravity of the situation, the army has been also been put on stand-by. A total of 826 relief camps are set up in various districts of the state.

Meanwhile, close to 100 people lost their lives in Bihar. As per Disaster Management Department officials, the water level has now started receding in several districts and consequently, the number of relief camps and those taking shelter at these have also gone down considerably.
