Asaram Bapu's 20 Day Parole Application Rejected For Second Time; Self-Styled Godman to Remain in Jodhpur Prison In Rape Case

Jodhpur, January 24: The Jodhpur Parole Committee on Thursday rejected Asaram Bapu's plea for 20-day parole. Self-styled godman Asaram Bapu, serving life imprisonment in Jodhpur Central Jail in a rape case, had applied parole for 20 days. This is the second time that Asaram's parole application is rejected. According to reports, the parole application was filed by Asaram's family member saying that he has spent more than five years in prison and is eligible for getting the parole. In September last year, 'Godman' had moved a mercy plea before Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh, seeking termination of his life sentence. In the plea, Asaram called life term a 'gruelling punishment' citing his age. Asaram had also filed an appeal in Rajasthan High Court against his conviction in the 'rape case.' According to the case, Jodhpur court had convicted Asaram on the charges of raping a teenager in August 2013. The court had sentenced him to prison until death, the maximum punishment for the offence. The charges levelled against Asaram Bapu were wrongful confinement, raping a minor girl, criminal conspiracy, criminal intimidation, and sexual harassment.
