New Delhi, September 11: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday announced that he has directed Health Department officials to bar state-run hospitals from allotting private rooms to VIP patients. The practice, Kejriwal said, subjects the common people of the national capital to discrimination. He, however, assured that the condition of all publicly available rooms will be further improved and raised to the private-standards. Delhi Metro Will Become Unprofitable: SC on Kejriwal Govt Decision to Provide Free Rides for Women.

"I have directed the Health Department to end VIP culture in govt hospitals. No more private rooms for VIPs. All citizens will get equal treatment, but it will be of the best quality," Kejriwal said on social media.

"Delhi government is adding a capacity of 13,899 beds to Delhi's public health infrastructure. This is an unprecedented expansion of more than 120% over existing capacity of 11,353 beds. All hospitals are being made fully AC, with world class, state-of-the-art facilities," he added.

Kejriwal, whose ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is seeking re-election in the upcoming Delhi assembly polls, has made a spree of announcements in the recent past. The most noteworthy among them being the waiver of interest on pending electricity and water dues, along with free ride for women in buses starting October 29.

The legislative polls are expected in January-February this year, with the battle expected to be a triangular contest between the AAP, the BJP and the Congress. In the 2015 elections, Kejriwal had completely swept the polls, winning 67 out of the 70 constituencies.
