Arun Jaitley to Resume Charge As Finance and Minister of Corporate Affairs After President Ram Nath Kovind’s Order
With the President's order, Jaitley will resume work at the finance and corporate affairs ministry on Thursday after a three-month-long break following a successful kidney transplant at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
New Delhi, August 23: President Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday directed to assign the portfolios of the Minister of Finance and Minister of Corporate Affairs to Union Minister Arun Jaitley. With the President's order, Jaitley will resume work at the finance and corporate affairs ministry on Thursday after a three-month-long break following a successful kidney transplant at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
A communique from Rashtrapati Bhavan said, “The President of India, as advised by the Prime Minister, has directed to assign the portfolios of the minister of finance and minister of corporate affairs to Shri Arun Jaitley.”
Jaitley had undergone a surgery in May this year and was discharged three weeks later and has been working from home the past few months. In Jaitley's absence, Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal was given the additional charge of the Finance and Corporate Affairs ministries.
Jaitely had stopped attending office in April for a renal transplant operation on May 14. During his absence, Jaitley has been very active on social media and has been writing on several topics. The Finance Minister had made his first public appearance after his surgery in the Rajya Sabha on August 9 and was welcomed with leaders across political arena. Jaitley was present to vote for the National Democratic Alliance candidate, Harivansh, to elect the deputy chairperson.
