Arun Jaitley Health Update: Finance Minister Leaves For US For Medical Check up Days Before Interim Budget 2019

Arun Jaitley, who is suffering from a kidney ailment, is to present his sixth and the BJP-led NDA government's last budget on February 1.

New Delhi, January 15: Days before the interim budget, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has left for the United States reportedly for a medical check-up relating to his kidney ailment. Arun Jaitley flew to the US on Sunday night. Jaitley, who is suffering from a kidney ailment, is to present his sixth and the BJP-led NDA government's last budget on February 1.

Last year, Jaitley had stopped attending his office in North Block at the beginning of April. He was admitted to All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi where he underwent dialysis. Jaitley had a renal transplant surgery on May 14, 2018. Railway Minister Piyush Goyal had been given the additional charge of the finance ministry in Jaitley's absence. Jaitley had resumed the charge as the Finance Minister on August 23. The 66-year-old minister had not travelled abroad in last nine months.

Jaitley had in September 2014, undergone a bariatric surgery to treat weight gain that he suffered because of a long-standing diabetic condition. That surgery was first performed at Max Hospital, but Jaitley was later shifted to AIIMS because of complications. He had heart surgery several years ago.
