Arun Jaitley Congratulates NIA For Cracking ISIS Module, Justifies Interception of Electronic Communication, Attacks Congress

Jaitley said the national security and sovereignty are paramount. He added saying life and personal liberty will survive only in a strong democratic nation – not in a terrorist dominated State.

New Delhi, December 27: A day after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) busted a suspected ISIS-inspired terror module, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday congratulated the NIA for the big success. Jaitley said the national security and sovereignty are paramount, adding that, life and personal liberty will survive only in a strong democratic nation – not in a terrorist dominated State. Justifying the recently issued notification that allows the investigative agency to intercept mobile phones and computers, Jaitley asked: "Would this crackdown of the terrorist module by NIA have been possible without interception of electronic communications?". Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for busting the ISIS module. " It is a big success and I congratulate NIA", Singh said.

On Wednesday, the NIA busted a suspected ISIS-inspired terror module following searches in Uttar Pradesh and New Delhi. After conducting searches across 17 locations in UP and Delhi with its probe into the new module called 'Harkat ul Harb e Islam', the NIA arrested at least 10 people allegedly planning to attack crowded places and political personalities.

National Investigation Agency (NIA) Inspector General Alok Mittal told reporters that the module was in touch with foreign handlers, whose identity is yet to be established. According to a PTI report, Mittal was quoted saying that searches were carried out in Delhi's Seelampur locality, UP's Lucknow, Amroha and Hapur districts where a huge quantity of explosives, a country-made rocket launcher, 100 mobiles and 135 SIM cards were recovered.
