New Delhi, August 6: Authorities have sounded a high alert in Delhi on Tuesday amid the Modi government's push to revoke Article 370 that grants special status to Jammu and Kashmir. To prevent any untoward incident, security across the national capital has been enhanced with deployment of additional personnel of the Delhi Police. The enhanced security cover would continue till Independence Day on August 15.

According to a report, as many as 3,000 additional personnel of the Delhi Police have been deployed at Delhi Metro stations, airports, markets, bus terminals, railway stations and shopping malls. Crowded places are being checked by police’s anti-sabotage teams and dog squads. A multi-layer security ring was thrown around Delhi on Monday after Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced scrapping of Article 370. “Our anti-terror Parakram vans have also been strategically placed across the city along with the additional deployment,” Delhi Police’s spokesperson Anil Mittal was quoted by Hindustan Times as saying. Security cover at the Indira Gandhi International Airport has also been enhanced by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

"Our men are deployed in the forecourt and even in parking areas since yesterday. Anti-terror squad has been alerted and is on standby to tackle any untoward situation," Deputy commissioner of police (Delhi airport) Sanjay Bhatia said. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) also sounded a red alert on Monday. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) also issued an order asking all States and Union Territories to keep law enforcement agencies on maximum alert.

The MHA ordered Chief Secretaries and Director Generals of Police (DGPs) of all state/UTs and Commissioner of Police of Delhi that immediate instruction may be issued to security forces and law enforcement agencies in all states to put them on maximum alert. "It is requested to take special care to ensure the safety and security of residents of Jammu and Kashmir, especially the students in various parts of the country," read the order.
