New Delhi, August 9: A petition was filed in the Supreme Court on Friday against the Narendra Modi government’s decision to dilute Article 370 for scrapping special status of Jammu and Kashmir. Kashmiri lawyer, Shakir Shabir filed the petition seeking direction from the top court to declare Centre’s move as illegal and unconstitutional. In the petition, Shabir also sought directions for the government to prevent all forms of human rights violation and exercise constrain bile dealing with the bonafide citizens of the nation. Meanwhile, authorities on August 9, withdrew Section 144 of CrPC (Code of Criminal Procedure) from Jammu Municipal Corporation's limits as normalcy is returning to the region. All educational institutes will also open tomorrow, said Jammu District Magistrate Sushma Chauhan. However, Internet services remained suspended in the region. President Ramnath Kovind on Friday also gave his approval to the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019. The bill was passed by the Parliament on Tuesday to bifurcate Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories — Jammu and Kashmir with an Assembly and Ladakh without one. According to an order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh will become union territories on Sardar Vallabhbai Patel's 144th birth anniversary on October 31.
