New Delhi, June 18: The Centre on Tuesday approved the proposal of the Defence Ministry for the restoration of the 'Ration in kind' to the defence officers, posted in peace areas. Two years ago, the Seventh Central Pay Commission (CPC) had recommended the Centre to put an end to ration-in-kind with effect. After this, the Centre stopped ‘ration-in-kind’ to army officers posted in peace areas with effect from July 1, 2017. According to DNA report published on July 25, 2017, free ration was costing Rs 100 per day (approx), whereas ration-in-kind cost Rs 205 per day. A Judge Advocate General (JAG) officer had also sent a notice to the Centre seeking a reversal of the decision within 60 days of its implementation, reported Times Now. The decision to withdraw the provision of ''ration in kind'' had met with criticism from several quarters within the three services of the armed forces.
