Naushera, February 17: Major Chitresh Singh Bisht from Uttarakhand, who was killed on Saturday while defusing an improvised explosive device (IED) in a mine in Jammu and Kashmir, was to get married in March this year. Reports inform that the 31-year old jawan was scheduled to be home in Dehradun next month as he was to get married on March 7. The Indian Army said that Bisht was martyred while defusing an improvised explosive device (IED) in a mine. Bisht is survived by his parents and an elder brother who lives abroad. His father SS Bisht, is a retired police officer.
As per details by the Police, the IED had been planted by terrorists inside the Line of Control (LoC) in Naushera sector of Rajouri district in Jammu and Kashmir. Leading the Bomb Disposal Team, Bisht successfully defused one mine but lost his life while he was neutralising another mine as the device got activated. The incident took place two days after 40 CRPF personnel were killed and five injured in one of the deadliest terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, by a Jaish-e-Mohammed suicide bomber in South Kashmir's Pulwama district. Defence spokesperson Lt Col Devender Anand said, "Major Chitresh Singh Bisht was a brave and sincere soldier. The nation will always remain indebted to him for the supreme sacrifice and devotion to duty".
