Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane Says 'We Will Pay Special Attention to Respect Human Rights'

In his 37 years of service, General Naravane has served in numerous command and staff appointments in Jammu and Kashmir and the northeast. He commanded a Rashtriya Rifles Battalion in Jammu and Kashmir.

New Delhi, January 1: General Manoj Mukund Naravane took charge as the 28th Chief of Army Staff on Tuesday as General Bipin Rawat retired after serving three years as the Army Chief. On assuming his new role, General Naravane said, " I pray to Waheguru Ji to give me courage and strength to perform my duties as the Chief of Army Staff. All three services are ready to defend the country."

General Naravane said, "Our priority will be to be operationally prepared at all times. We will pay special attention to respect human rights." When asked about challenges that may lay ahead of him in his new posting, he had earlier said that it was too early to say about it right now as to what would be the focus areas.
