Lucknow, October 8: The Uttar Pradesh police issued an alert to prevent any unfortunate incident after a series of WhatsApp messages began circulating asking constables to protest on October 10 against the arrest of two constables in connection with the killing of Apple executive Vivek Tiwari in September. Hindustan Times has accessed the letter dated October 5, 2018, from the Superintendent of Police (Intelligence) of Meerut region which was sent to the authorities concerned.
According to a report published by a media house, the WhatsApp message stated that traffic cops should go on duty but should not control traffic movement and civil police cops should go to police stations but should not visit any crime spot or attend public complaints. The police have started an investigation in the matter to collect information about such messages. Incidents of resentment among some constables in Lucknow were reported last week. The constables displayed their solidarity for the arrested constables by wearing black bands. Similarly, constables from different districts also expressed their support for their arrested colleagues through social media. Meanwhile, the wife of Prashant Chaudhary, one of the arrested constables has appealed to UP Police constables through a Facebook post not to boycott their work and should not indulge in any protest.
Apple executive Vivek Tiwari was shot dead by a police constable in Gomti Nagar area on September 29 while he was going to drop his colleague Sana Khan. Vivek’s body was cremated on September 30 at Bhaisakund in present of state minister Brijesh Pathak and local MLA Ashutosh Tandon and others. The two constables Prashant Chowdhury and Sandeep Kumar were arrested and dismissed from the job, and an FIR was registered in the matter on the basis of a complaint by Khan.
