Lucknow, September 29: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has broken his silence over the death of Lucknow resident Vivek Tiwari. While speaking on the incident, the UP chief minister clarified that it was not an encounter. He further assured of conducting an investigation into the case. Yogi also stated that a CBI inquiry would also be ordered if required.
Meanwhile, Director General of Police (DGP) UP has constituted a Special Investigating Team under the chairmanship of IG Lucknow to investigate the case. SP Crime and SP Rural Lucknow will be other members of the team. ADG Law and order, Anand Kumar said that the report would be submitted at the at the earliest.
The tragic incident took place on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday around 1:30 am in Lucknow's upscale Gomti Nagar extension area when Vivek was returning home in his SUV and was stopped by two policemen. After he allegedly refused to stop his SUV during the police checking, one of the policemen took out his gun and fired at him on noticing suspicious activity.

According to police details, Tiwari, who was driving the car, first hit the police patrol bike and then rammed a wall while allegedly trying to escape. Constable Prashant Kumar who fired at the car was reported to be arrested after police registered an FIR on Tiwari's colleague complaint. Kumar claimed that he fired at Tiwari in self-defence as the victim tried to run over him thrice by his car. Meanwhile, the woman who was present with Vivek Tiwari when the incident took place said she is under no pressure to hide the truth and wants the culprit to be punished. The 38-year-old victim was survived by his wife and two daughters. His wife, Kalpana Tiwari demanded justice from the UP government. She has also written to Yogi Adityanath demanding a CBI inquiry into the incident. In addition to this, she has also demanded a compensation of Rs 1 crore and a job in the police department. The post-mortem of Tiwari revealed that he was shot with a bullet.
