Uttar Pradesh, December 19: Violent protests are taking place against the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) across the country. The scenario is no different in Uttar Pradesh, buses have been set on fire and protesters have vandalised other public transports as well on Thursday. There have been further reports of lathicharge which police resorted to disperse the crowd.
In UP, Sambhal district and Lucknow, in particular, have witnessed violence as protesters have engaged in stone-pelting and even torched several vehicles. In view of the protests and the violence, the internet has been suspended in Sambhal till further orders.

In Gujarat too, police resorted to lathicharge during a protest called by different Left parties, over Citizenship Amendment Act, in Ahmedabad. The protesters were allegedly blocking police vehicle when the police resorted to lathi-charge to disperse them.
The protests across the nation have intensified after the Parliament gave a nod to the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2019, which became an Act after getting President Ram Nath Kovind's signature.
