Bengaluru, December 21: Curfew was relaxed for three hours in violence-hit Mangaluru in Karnataka on Saturday. Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa announced that curfew will be relaxed from 3 pm to 6 pm today i.e. December 21, while the night curfew will continue. Meanwhile, the Mangaluru Police: informed that curfew will be removed on Monday, however, Section-144 to remain in force. According to a tweet by ANI, the Chief Minister announced that on December 22, curfew will be relaxed during day-time in Mangaluru and stated that section 144 will be imposed from December 23. Mangaluru, a city in Karnataka, is about 350 kms southwest of Bengaluru.

On Friday, curfew was relaxed for two hours in the afternoon and Friday prayers (namaz) were offered peacefully across the city. In the wake of the curfew in the district, schools and colleges were ordered to remain shut till Saturday, as state-run and private buses and auto-rickshaws were not plying on streets. Additional police forces from neigbouring districts have been deployed in the port city to ensure tight security and to  maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incident.  Section 144 Imposed in Bengaluru, Parts of Karnataka For 3 Days as Anti-CAA Protests Spread Across State.

Mangaluru has seen the worst violence during the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests during the pan India protests which began last week. Day-long massive protests were held on Thursday against the CAA, defying a ban order under Section 144 of the CrPC. According to reports, two people died after protests turned violent. In Mangaluru and Dakshin Kannada districts of Karnataka, mobile internet services had been suspended for 48 hours from Thursday night.
