New Delhi, December 23: The Delhi Police on Sunday released video clips allegedly showing protestors burning a DTC bus and torching a motorcycle in the national capital, during the anti-CAA protests which took place on December 15. The three video clips, claiming to be from the anti-CAA protests that rocked Delhi, were shared by news agency ANI and quoted Delhi Police sources along with the video. The videos are reportedly from the same area, where violent protests took place on December 14 and 15, pulling the national capital into the nation-wide frenzy over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. Hundreds of students and residents had gathered outside the Jamia campus and carried out a march carrying the national flag. More and more people were seen gathering outside the Gate number 7 -- the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Gate -- the main protesting area. Some students of the Jamia Milia University and residents of the locality staged a protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act on Sunday, December 15 and the demonstration turned violent, leading to police resorting to lathi-charge and using teargas. Police also entered Jamia and detained several people.
Delhi Police said that the crime branch will investigate the violence in which four DTC buses, 100 private vehicles and 10 police bikes were damaged and asserted that it used “maximum restraint, minimum force” despite being “provoked” by protesters. Later investigations proved that no Jamia Millia Islamia student was involved in any act of violence.
