According to reports, police were not present at the site of the protest, and the protesters were manning the traffic and passersby at Jamia University. In Shaheen Bagh, the road from Noida to Faridabad was closed, and there was no traffic movement. However, a total of 29 companies comprising personnel from Delhi Police, Rapid Action Force and CRPF were deployed across Delhi in anticipation of trouble.
Students across various universities also gathered outside the UP Bhawan in Delhi. However, the police managed to disperse the protesters. Friday's peaceful demonstrations brought some relief to Delhi residents as the national capital was on a boil ever since the Citizenship Amendment Act was passed in Parliament. Rajasthan’s Ajmer also witnessed Anti-CAA protests. The khadims (servitors) of Ajmer Dargah along with hundred others took out a protest march. The protesters burnt the effigy of Ajmer Dargah Deewan - Zainul Abedin Ali Khan, who supported the CAA. The protest march concluded at the Collectorate after passing through Dargah bazaar. Meanwhile, Mumbai witnessed rallies for and against the CAA and the National Register of Citizens (NRC). Students and social activists held a protest against the Act and NRC at the Azad Maidan in south Mumbai, while a large number of people gathered for a pro-CAA rally at the historic August Kranti Maidan, where a massive protest against the Citizenship Act was held last week. The Citizenship Amendment Bill was passed in Parliament on December 11. The act grants citizenship to non-Muslim migrants, including Hindus, Christians, Jains, Buddhists, Sikhs and Parsis. After the bill was passed, the nation witnessed widespread protests against the act.
