Hyderabad, August 1: A woman in Hyderabad on Thursday alleged that she was given triple talaq by her husband in the national capital when she was pregnant. According to a tweet by ANI, the 20-year-old woman said she was given triple talaq on a paper 3 months ago. She informed that she was forced to ask her father for a car and the house by her husband and his family. While describing her ordeal, the woman said that in-laws thrashed her brutally and also tried to kill her once. "They used to force me to ask my father for car, house. My husband used to beat me up, also tried to kill me once. He gave me triple talaq on a paper 3 months ago", the victim said. The incident came to light days after the Triple Talaq Bill was passed in the Parliament by the Modi government, which is believed to be a gift of dignity to Muslim women as it brings women a step closer to end the practice of instant divorce among the Muslim community. On July 30, Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad introduced the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2019 and said that though the practice had been banned in many Islamic countries, India had not done so despite being a secular nation. The Bill outlawing Triple Talaq was on Tuesday passed in the Rajya Sabha. The Bill criminalises the practice of instant divorce among the Muslim community.
